  • Deep Blue Sound Audition Information

    Out of Pocket is excited to announce auditions for the regional premiere of “Deep Blue Sound”, the final show of our 2025-26 season. Directed by Jeff Siuda, this remarkable play by Abe Koogler is about community, connection, and the majesty of nature.

    Auditions will be held at The MuCCC (142 Atlantic Avenue, Rochester) on Monday, February 9th. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, Feburary 10th. All auditions are by appointment ONLY. Please email outofpockettheatre@gmail.com about submitting a video audition.

    Those auditioning are asked to provide an acting resume, schedule of conflicts between April 5th and May 21st, and a headshot (if available). PLEASE NOTE: additional conflicts added after the audition process may result in the recasting of roles.

    Auditionees will be asked to read sides from the play. Those auditioning should be familiar with the play if possible - a copy of the script is available at the link below.

    Rehearsal period: Rehearsals may begin as early as April 5th, typically rehearsing Sunday afternoons and Monday through Thursday evenings. Friday and Saturday rehearsals may be scheduled based on rehearsal progress and cast availability.

    PLEASE NOTE: Actors can have no conflicts during tech week and strike.

    Production will be staged at the Multi-Use Community Cultural Center.

    Synopsis

    Characters (6 female-presenting characters, 3 male-presenting characters)
    Ella (Female, 60s) - dying of cancer; also plays Islander F
    Joy Mead (Female, 50s-70s) - the newspaper editor; also plays Islander D
    Mary (Female, 30s-40s) - a massage therapist; also plays Islander A
    Ali (Female, 20s-30s) -Ella’s daughter; also plays Islander B and Karl Who Runs The Pharmacy
    Mayor Annie (Female, 20s-60s) - the unofficial mayor; also plays Islander H and Mo
    Leslie (Female, 30s-70s) - a horse groomer; also plays Islander C and Voice of a Therapist

    John (Male, 50s-60s) - used to run an art gallery on the island; also plays Islander G
    Chris (Male, 30s-40s) - carpenter; also plays Islander E, Alexander The Dancing Boy, and Voice of An Oceanographer
    Gary (Male, 30s-60s) - a drifter; also plays The Whale
